Samsung Galaxy S20 Email Help

Fix Sending Email on the Samsung Galaxy S20

Follow these steps to update only the outgoing mail settings. Incoming mail can be left alone if receiving email already works.

Do not delete the email account. Only change the outgoing SMTP settings shown below.

Outgoing server settings SMTP server smtp.mweb.co.za Security type STARTTLS / TLS Port 587 Authentication ON Done

The Settings to Enter

When the phone shows the outgoing server or SMTP settings, use these values. These settings are normally on the same Server settings page, but they may not all fit on the screen at once. Scroll down to see the port, encryption, and authentication options.

Email account mwjhm@mweb.co.za
SMTP server smtp.mweb.co.za
Port 587
Security / encryption STARTTLS or TLS
Authentication On / required
Password Use the existing email password

Before You Start

Make sure the phone is connected to the new Wi-Fi.
Open the Samsung Email app, not a web browser.
Have the email password ready, but do not write it on this page.

Step by Step

Inbox Message from Mweb Tap menu to find settings Family email Receiving works
1

Open Email and tap the menu

Open the Email app on the phone. In the inbox, tap the three lines at the top left.

If the phone asks for permission or opens straight into the inbox, that is fine.

Email mwjhm@mweb.co.za Folders Sent
2

Tap the settings gear

The side menu opens. Tap the gear icon near the top right of the side menu.

The gear opens the Email app settings.

Settings Accounts mwjhm@mweb.co.za Tap this account Notifications Spam addresses
3

Choose the email account

On the settings screen, tap mwjhm@mweb.co.za.

If there is more than one email account, be careful to choose the Mweb address.

Account settings Sync account Email sync schedule Signature Scroll down Server settings
4

Tap Server settings

Scroll down until you see Server settings. It may be near the bottom.

Tap Server settings.

Server settings Incoming server Leave this alone if receiving works. Outgoing server SMTP server smtp.mweb.co.za Security type STARTTLS / TLS
5

Find Outgoing server settings

Leave the incoming settings alone. On the same screen, scroll to Outgoing server settings or SMTP server.

Change the SMTP server to smtp.mweb.co.za.

Outgoing server Security type STARTTLS or TLS Port 587 Do not use Port 25
6

Set encryption and port

This is still in the Outgoing server settings area. Scroll a little further down if you cannot see everything.

Set Security type to STARTTLS or TLS.

Set Port to 587.

Do not use port 25. It is blocked on the Mweb network.

Outgoing server Require authentication Username mwjhm@mweb.co.za Password email password Done
7

Turn authentication on

Switch on Require authentication to send emails.

  • Username: mwjhm@mweb.co.za
  • Password: the normal email password

If the phone offers "same as incoming server", that is usually fine as long as the username is the email address.

Outgoing server All set Server: smtp.mweb.co.za Port: 587 Security: STARTTLS Authentication: On Done
8

Tap Done, then send a test

Tap Done or Sign in at the bottom of the screen.

Send a short test email to yourself. If it sends, the phone is fixed.

If It Still Does Not Send

Check these three things first:

  • The SMTP server is exactly smtp.mweb.co.za. No spaces before or after it.
  • The port is exactly 587, not 25.
  • Authentication is on, and the username is the full email address: mwjhm@mweb.co.za.

If the phone says the password is wrong, retype the email password carefully. Passwords are case-sensitive.
